Introduction
Documentation for ZotLit, the Obsidian plugin that integrates Zotero into your knowledge base.
ZotLit brings your Zotero library into Obsidian. Browse your papers, read their PDFs with your Zotero highlights, and write literature notes and citations without leaving your vault.
Coming from v1?
v2 is a major upgrade with breaking changes. Your existing literature notes and custom templates do not carry over unchanged: notes lose incremental updates until re-created, and custom Eta templates need rework. Read Migrate from v1 before upgrading.
Upgrading from 2.1?
Your 2.1 literature note templates keep working. ZotLit offers a one-pass conversion that folds them into profile documents. Until you convert, only the Default profile creates and updates notes. Read Migrate from 2.1 templates before you add a profile.
Start here
Follow these two steps. ZotLit reads your library straight from the Zotero database, so you need no other add-on to browse it and read your papers.
Add the rest when a task needs it:
- Keep Zotero and Obsidian in sync with ZotLit Companion, the Zotero add-on, so recent Zotero changes reach Obsidian and Zotero's menus can open your notes.
- Install Better BibTeX for stable citation keys when you start citing.
